OPAL BUCHANAN ASHEVILLE Opal Freeman our precious mother, Aug. 27, 2003, in cheer on Shope Creek Road, Asheville.

She was born May 7, 1921, in Henderson County to the late Zadie Padgett Freeman and Robert Ransom Freeman. She is survived by her three daughters, Linda Mills, Gloria band, Roy, Kay herd husCarter and her hus- band, Tom, all of Asheville. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Angela Arotin, Garrick Smith, Rhonda Perez, Heather Moss and Christian King; and four great-grandchildren, Justice and Gabriel Arotin, Drake Moss, and Raven Perez. Opal was the 10th of 13 children. Three siblings survive her, Robert Freeman of Nebo, Elmorrow Red Fender of Dysartsville and Myrtle Buchanan of Smyrna, Del.

The funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home in Black Mountain. The Rev. James Lamb, Pastor Joe Johnston and Brenda Lewis will officiate. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and at other times will gather at the Buchanan home, 356 Shope Creek Road. GUIN LAWSON ARROWOOD MURPHY Guin Lawson Buchanan, Wednesday, home Opal Buchanan Arrowood, 82, of Murphy died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, in a Murphy hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, he was a son of the late John Burley and Della Creasman Arrowood and the husband of Callie Arrettia Nix Arrowood, who died Oct.

18, 1990, after 44 years of marriage. Guin served in the Army in the Pacific theatre during World War II. He was a rural mail carrier in Murphy, retiring in 1989. Guin was a member of American Legion Post 96 and Little Brasstown Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, John Lawson Arrowood, who died March 10, 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel Hembree Arrowood; daughter, Sharon Dean and husband, Stephen, of Murphy; son, Mitchell Arrowood and wife, Wanda, of Murphy; stepdaughter, Brenda Hendrix and husband, Bob, of Murphy; stepson, Charles Hembree and wife, Phoebe, of Murphy; daughter-in-law, Barbara Arnett Arrowood of Apex; three sisters, Doris Wheeler and Edith Stiles, both of Murphy, and Modean Minor of Syracuse, N.Y.; brother, Howard Arrowood of Marble; three grandchildren, John Martin Arrowood. 28, 2003, at Autumn Care of Waynesville. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Lizzie Russell Fisher. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dortha Coward Fisher; a granddaughter, Misty Dawn Fisher; a brother, Henry Fisher; and a sister, Hester Holland. He was a member of Allens Creek Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. He loved the work of the church and served in many ways.

He retired with 33 years of service from the Department of Agriculture and served as director of the agriculture stabilization and conservation services in McDowell, Jackson and Haywood Counties. He began his career as a state spot checker and covered all of Western North Carolina. He loved to play golf at Iron Tree Golf Course, loved baseball and was very interested in the Blue Ridge Baseball Team and James. He also loved his garden and liked to fish and hunt. He is survived by his son, Ray Fisher and his wife, Shelby, of Waynesville; grandson, Philip Fisher and his wife, Jann, of Waynesville; two great-grandchildren, Graham Reece and Peyton Rebecca of Waynesville; five sisters, Minnie Fish of Waynesville, Mary Mauck of Asheville, Laura Fish of Morganton, Hazel Mathis of Clyde and Martha Benfield of Lenoir; and three brothers, Daniel and Robert Waynesville and Crawford Fisher of Nebo.

He is also survived by a lifelong friend, classmate, and roommate at Care, Nobel Arrington. The funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Revs. Lloyd Eddie Dietz and T.E. Robinette officiating.

BEN H. EIDAM LAKE JUNALUSKA Benjamin Howard "Ben" Eidam, 70, of 14 Pepper Lake Junaluska, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Columbus, he was the son of the late Benjamin Howard Eidam Sr. and Wilma Andrews Eidam.

He was a graduate of Columbus High Ben School in Columbus Eidam and received ed his pharmacy degree from the University of Georgia. He was owner and operator of the Waynesville Pharmacy for 31 years. He was an active member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church and was current chairman of the administrative board, taught the Aldersgate Sunday school class and member of the choir. He is survived by his wife, Julia Haren Eidam; two daughters, Janet Nix and her husband, Allan, of Woodstock, and Maria Haren Reitan and her husband, Doug, of Minneapolis, two sons, Don Eidam and his wife, Susie, of Savannah, and Tom Haren and wife, Elizabeth, of Erie, sister, Elissa E. Tidwell and her husband, Walter, of Columbus; and six grandchildren, Brittany and Heather Eidam, Cameron Reitan, Brandon Nix and Michael and Jacob Haren.
