For multiple decades, Cartoon Network has been releasing original shows left and right. Kids from the 1990s will remember cartoon oldies such as Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls, and Dexter's Laboratory, while the younger generation enjoyedshows such as Regular Show and Steven Universe. Either way, these shows were and are incredibly successful, and contain some of the best characters to date.

On the other hand, there are some cartoons with a dark side,and that may be a little toomature for the youngest audiences watching. Although most of the cartoons below are treasured for their unique characters, storylines, and laughs, they also contain some episodes that are still creepy today.
Aye Aye Eyes: Dexter's Laboratory (7.3)
From 1996 to 2003, Dexter's Laboratory was one of the best cartoons on Cartoon Network. The episodes were only 20 to 25 minutes long, but it was long enough to catch up with Dexter, Dee Dee, and the whole family. Even though the show was mostly centered on the McPherson family, it also added in some additional characters quite frequently.
In particular, in the episode called, "Aye Aye Eyes," a certain little girl with a certain little obsession was introduced in Season 2. When Dexter innocently returns a stuffed animal to her,the girlfalls madly in love with him and becomes his stalker. To be rid of her, Dee Dee helps him by setting the little girl's sights on another poor unfortunate soul. This gets rid of Dexter's problem, but only because the obsession is pinned on someone else. The whole premise is super odd and the fact that a kid's show depicted stalkers is disturbing.
Collect Her: Powerpuff Girls (7.5)
By Season two, Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup have quite the fanbase,but noone isas creepy as comic book geek, Lenny Baxter. When the episodeshows the inside ofBaxter's home, it's filled with Powerpuff Girls memorabilia. After he's purchased all of the merchandise he can get his hands on, he takes things to the next level.
Unhappy with the fact he has everything, Baxter goes to the girls' house and starts to take their personal items. This leads him to wanting the girls themselves,and in desperation, he lures them to his apartment. He eventually traps them in packages, which takes things way too far.Baxter isn't a creaturelike a lot of the villains in The Powerpuff Girls, but he's definitely a creeper.
Power-Noia: Powerpuff Girls (7.7)
The episode, "Power-Noia" is another scary episode from The Powerpuff Girls that is creepy for a couple of reasons. The villain named "HIM" is definitely a nod to something devilish, which is terrifying on its own, but when he uses the girls' fears against them, it gets scarier.

After the girls have another triumph of defeating a monster that is stomping around Townsville, HIM is waiting for them when they go to bed. He casts a spell over them as they sleep, which puts all three of them in a dream-like state ofexperiencingtheir biggest fears. This premise is a bit traumatizing because nightmares are already extremely scary for young viewers.
Steven Universe: Nightmare Hospital (8.3)
In a particularSteven Universeepisode called, "Nightmare Hospital,"Connie's mother finds Connie with a sword, and scolds her for it. In return, her mother brings it to work, at a hospital, and Connie wants it back. She and Steven sneak into the hospital to retrieve it and realize that something isn't right.
What they don't anticipate is what awaits them, and when they enter the hospital, they realize all the lights are off. While they go to retrieve the sword ina corner of one of the rooms, they realize the patient in the room might not be alive. They are sorely mistaken when it wakes up, and the creature is what nightmares are made of.The creature has limbs coming out of its body every which wayand it's up to Connie, a little girl, and Steven, a small boy, to kill it.
Freaky Fred: Courage The Cowardly Dog (8.5)
Courage the Cowardly Dog fans know what they are getting themselves into when they watch,but when Freaky Fred came out to play, things took a turn. Fred is Eustace's and Muriel's nephew and in season one, he decides to pay them a visit. Eustace verbalizes his feelings about Fred to Courage, soCourage is already nervous about Fred.
From the first glance and first scene with Fred, viewers will know he's up to no good. He has an obsession with shaving people's hair, and while he seems to have it under control, it all changes when he seesCourage's fur. Afterlistening to storiesaboutFred cutting the hair of his hamster, and then his ex-girlfriend's, it's clear that Courageis in huge trouble. There's a reason why Fred is considered thefreakiest character on Courage the Cowardly Dog, and it's hard to argue why.
Regular Show: Terror Tales Of The ParkV (8.6)
Regular Show is known for its anthology-style Halloween Specials, so usually, fans are aware that they might be a little darker than other episode.One that stands out in particularinvolves a supposed puppet with red eyes.It starts whenBenson orders a mechanical wish maker named Racki, and while it was meant to be a fun prop for the party, it becomes much more than that.

Racki delivers and grants the wishes of the partygoers, but with an evil twist. He has a creepy look to him, and above all, his eyes glow red. To take it a step further, he also has the ability to make the wisher's eyes red, too. Even though this was all a vision Benson had, it was still a horrible dream-turned-nightmare.
King Ramses' Curse: Courage The Cowardly Dog (8.9)
"King Ramses' Curse" gives "Freaky Fred" a run for its money. It starts out innocently enough when Courage is venturing around the farm when he stumbles upon a stone slab. It turns out to be an Egyptian relic, stolen from a Pharaoh's tomb and is worth a fortune.
Of course, money-hungry Eustace refuses to hand it over, and the trio is promptly haunted by a willowy figure,threatening three plagues on them all. From the wisps of hair spiraling outof Pharaoh'shead to the ripped-up clothing, everything about this creature is creepy and frightening.
Jack And The Haunted House: Samurai Jack (9.2)
The lead in Samurai Jack can almost always be foundfightingvillains while saving the world, but nothing comes close to the episode "Jack and the Haunted House." In the episode, Jack is traveling to a home that has a family trapped inside it. He must free the family from the house, and from the evil force that is wreaking havoc on them.
From the run-down house, the disappearing woman, andthe evil presence, nothing issafe here. After finding random objects in the house, Jack experiences flashbacks, which play out in a horror-movie type of way. Of course, the evil entity is the real threat here, and it manages to rip Jack's soul right out of his body.
Teen Titans: Haunted (9.3)
In "Haunted," Robin believes that Slade is back, even though no one else can see him. Robin also believes he confronted him during an eerie and stormy night, but still, no one believes him. This episode is unique becausethe most disturbing scenes have to do with one of the main character's battles with his own mind.
From his hallucinations to waking up in an infirmary strapped to a bed, sometimes, the scariest episodes from a cartoon haveto do with the mental aspects of it, andthe low points a fan's favorite character can experience.
Steven Universe: Change Your Mind (9.5)
At first, the trio above might look colorful and innocent, but as viewers know, looks and actions can be deceiving. This emotional episode in Steven Universe has to do with relationships that viewers are commonly very comfortable with, but can be a struggle, as well: family. The episode shows how toxic relationships with family can be, and how they affect someone in the process.
Pink Diamond is the character in question, and while Steven struggles with his old identity and demons, this episode brings to life the dangerous (and creepy) influence the oblivious characters seem to be. White Diamond also manages to convert people into zombies, so there's that.
