  • Material layer volume determination

    Patent number: 4027660

Abstract: A technique for generally determining the volume of a layer of a constituent material in a centrifugally separated mixture of material. A centrifuge tube is used to hold the material mixture and an appropriately shaped body is disposed in the tube in the zone occupied by the constituent material whose volume is to be measured. The body reduces the available volume within the tube which may be occupied by the constituent material, and thus expands the axial extent of the constituent material to make visual measurement of the constituent material more accurate.

  • Blood constituent testing methods

    Patent number: 4082085

Abstract: A technique for generally determining the buffy layer volume, white cell and platelet count or general reticulocyte count in a centrifugally separated mixture of a blood sample. A capillary centrifuge tube is used to hold the material mixture and an appropriately shaped body is disposed in the tube in the zone occupied by the constituent material whose volume is to be measured. The body reduces the available volume within the tube which may be occupied by the constituent material, and thus expands the axial extent of the constituent material to make visual measurement of the constituent material more accurate.

  • Method and apparatus for horizontal assembly of a high-voltage feed-through bushing

    Patent number: 7798479

Abstract: A method for horizontal assembly of a high-voltage feed-through bushing includes vertically-assembling a field shaper assembly of a high-voltage feed-through bushing on a field shaper fixture. The field shaper assembly is then rotated within the field shaper fixture such that the field shaper assembly is oriented on a horizontal axis. Next, an insulator tube fixture supporting an insulator tube assembly is positioned adjacent to the field shaper fixture. The insulator tube assembly, being oriented on the same horizontal axis as the field shaper assembly, is then affixed to field shaper assembly.

  • Material layer volume determination

    Patent number: 4077396

Abstract: A technique for generally determining the approximate volume of the white cell and platelet layers in a centrifugally separated mixture of anticoagulated blood. A centrifuge tube is used to hold the blood sample and an appropriately shaped body is disposed in the tube in the zone occupied by the white cell and platelet layers whose volume is to be measured. The body reduces the available volume within the tube which may be occupied by the white cell and platelet layers and thus expands the axial extent thereof to make visual measurement of the white cell and platelet layers more accurate. The body has an inwardly and upwardly tapered upper end portion which prevents platelet cells from aggregating on the top of the body.

  • SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR LABELING DATA

    Publication number: 20210264300

Abstract: An artificial intelligence (AI) system may be configured to efficiently annotate most if not all unlabeled image data. Some embodiments may: provide, to an object-detection, machine-learning (ML) model, a plurality of unlabeled data such that the object-detection model predicts a plurality of regions; correct at least one vertex of bounds of at least one of the regions such that the bounds fit tighter around an object; convert the regions to first subregions by cropping the first subregions from the unlabeled data; and provide the first subregions to an embedding, ML model configured to output feature vectors for each of the first subregions.

  • Cartridge containing plasma source for accelerating a projectile

    Patent number: 4715261

Abstract: A projectile is accelerated through a gun barrel bore by a cartridge containing a high temperature, high pressure plasma jet source. The cartridge has a geometry enabling it to be loaded into a breech bore of the gun. The plasma jet is supplied to the rear of the projectile and is derived by a tube having an interior wall forming a capillary passage. A discharge voltage applied between spaced regions along the capillary passage ionizes a dielectric to form a plasma. First and second ends of the passage are respectively open and blocked to enable and prevent the flow of plasma through them. The blocked end closes the breech bore.

  • Apparatus, system, and method for efficiently increasing exhaust flow temperature for an internal combustion engine

    Patent number: 8091345

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for efficiently increasing exhaust flow temperature for an internal combustion engine. The method includes excepting a user input to disable an exhaust valve opening mechanism. The method further includes monitoring exhaust gas mass flows and temperatures, interpreting required exhaust temperatures for aftertreatment devices, and surveying a plurality of operating conditions for a combustion engine. The method includes determining a crankshaft angle for dynamically engaging an exhaust valve open mode based on the exhaust temperature, the required exhaust temperature, and the engine operating conditions. Dynamically engaging the exhaust valve open mode includes selecting a specific crankshaft angle for each combustion cycle of the engine.

  • Apparatus and system for defining a metadata schema to facilitate passing data between an extensible markup language document and a hierarchical database

    Patent number: 7912874

Abstract: The apparatus and system are provided for defining a metadata schema to facilitate passing data between an XML document and a hierarchical database. The invention includes a database accessor, a document accessor, and an association module. The database accessor accesses a database schema indicative of database field names and a hierarchical structure for a hierarchical database. The document accessor accesses a document schema that defines the hierarchical structure, content data syntax, and semantics of valid, well-formed, XML documents that can be passed into and out of the hierarchical database. The document schema also includes at least one XML element name that maps to a corresponding database field name in the database schema. The association module associates the database schema and the document schema to provide a metadata schema that enables data to be passed between an XML document and the hierarchical database.

  • Horizontal modular dry irradiated fuel storage system

    Patent number: 4780269

Abstract: A horizontal, modular, dry, irradiated fuel storage system (10) includes a thin-walled canister (12) for containing irradiated fuel assemblies (20), which canister (12) can be positioned in a transfer cask (14) and transported in a horizontal manner from a fuel storage pool (18), to an intermediate-term storage facility. The storage system (10) includes a plurality of dry storage modules (26) which accept the canister (12) from the transfer cask (14) and provide for appropriate shielding about the canister (12). Each module (26) also provides for air cooling of the canister (12) to remove the decay heat of the irradiated fuel assemblies (20). The modules (26) can be interlocked so that each module (26) gains additional shielding from the next adjacent module (26). Hydraulic rams (30) are provided for inserting and removing the canisters (12) from the modules (26).
