The History of Dallas Stars Hockey

The Stars have carved a remarkable path through the National Hockey League. Their journey began in 1967 in Bloomington, Minnesota, where they played as the North Stars. The team quickly established itself as an offensive powerhouse and reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 1978, but despite their scoring prowess, the squad struggled to find consistent success.

Sadly, the late 1970s brought financial difficulties. In an attempt to save the team, the league merged the North Stars with the Cleveland Barons, another struggling franchise. The combined team retained the North Stars name and continued to play in Bloomington. They experienced a resurgence in the early 1980s, becoming a regular postseason contender and reaching the Stanley Cup Finals again in 1991.

Still without a title, in 1993, the team made a move to Dallas, Texas. There, they embraced a new name, embarked on a new era, and sought to establish themselves in the Lone Star State. It happened quicker than anyone expected, and the Stars finally captured their first Stanley Cup in 1999.

The club continued to showcase its dominance throughout the 2000s, making six playoff appearances and reaching the NHL Finals in 2000. The organization's unwavering commitment to excellence and the team’s ability to consistently produce exciting, high-caliber hockey have made the franchise a fan favorite.

In 2023, Dallas made an impressive run, advancing to the Western Conference Finals. Although they couldn’t claim the trophy, their performance reinforced their potential as a contender. Their biggest supporters eagerly anticipate the future and another championship run.

The Stars Hockey Schedule

Before you buy your Stars tickets, you’ll need to decide which matchups will meet your expectations. The team faces a demanding schedule each season, battling against adversaries within and outside their conference, but there are two rivalries that command extra attention.

When Dallas meets the Colorado Avalanche and the St. Louis Blues, their pairings provide some of the most intense encounters in the NHL. These clashes are not just about winning—bragging rights are on the line, and sometimes that’s a bigger motivator than the score.

Elsewhere in the Eastern Conference, the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, and Montreal Canadiens are all waiting to suck the wind out of the Stars’ sails. These opponents give players a chance to showcase their skills and solidify the club’s reputation as a top competitor.

Finally, we’d be remiss to not mention the obvious. Dallas has a score to settle with the Vegas Golden Knights. It will be interesting to see what develops between these teams in the coming seasons. If you get a chance to see them face off, don’t miss it!

American Airlines Center Information

The Stars' home arena, the American Airlines Center, is a state-of-the-art facility designed with fans in mind. With a capacity of over 18,500, the arena also hosts the Dallas Mavericks, premier concerts, and more.

Seating

For those seeking the ultimate close-up view of the action, the sections behind the player benches at mid-ice offer an unparalleled perspective. The Stars sit near Section 119, while the visitors take up residence in front of Section 118. Seats here provide a unique opportunity to sneak a peek at strategy talks and reactions during the game.

The home team shoots twice at the goal on the northwest side of the building, with Sections 112–113 right behind the net. If you’d like to keep your ticket price on the low side, try Sections 317–319 for an elevated version of the same views.

On the opposite side of the ice, the party is in sections 330–332. The 300 level, also known as the Terrace Level at this venue, is where you’ll typically find the cheapest tickets, but you can still score decent views, especially in the lower rows.

The penalty box spans sections 106–107, 209–210, and 309–310. The lower bowl is often referred to as the Plaza Level, and seats in Row A are behind the glass. Ticket holders in this row receive access to the Tequila Patron Lounge, but you’ll pay a premium for the privilege.

Parking

The American Airlines Center offers convenient parking, with several official lots, garages, and ramps located nearby. These include:

  • Lexus Garage (0.2 miles)

  • Victory Park Garage (0.3 miles)

  • Perot Museum Garage (0.4 miles)

It can be a challenge to find vacancies in the area on event days, so we highly recommend booking parking passes when you buy your Stars tickets at GoTickets.com. This will help to ensure a stress-free arrival.

Alternative Transportation

The venue is easily accessible via public transportation. The Dallas Area Rapid Transit Blue Line (Victory Station) and the Streetcar (American Airlines Center Station) provide convenient access to the arena. Additionally, the DART offers bus routes that stop near the arena. For cyclists, there are bike racks located throughout the AAC district.
