When October rolls around it is Steelhead Time. This is casting with spawn and beads for the most part , but we do get the plugs out later in the season. I plan to fish this year untill deer season which is Nov.15.
Manistee River Fishing Report
Sept. 13, 2016
Salmon are present in all areas of the Manistee River. We have been catching fish around the Bear Creek area. Bouncing spawn on the bottom has been the best producer this year. Thunder sticks are catching us a few fish also, and those darn Ping A tees are not doing anything. I finally have a good supply and cant catch anything on them.....maybe I forgot how to run them?
Remember to be courteous to other boaters, it is a small river with lots of users so slow down and try not to crowd other fisherman and enjoy the day!!
Typically where I fish , about halfway between the dam and the lake the best fishing is late feb. thru March. In April we get some great fishing for dropbacks, post spawn fish returning to the lake. There is some spawning activity in the areas we fish, but most of the gravel is near the dam and so are the people!
This is year 34 for me as
as a fishing guide.
Thanks to all who helped Make It Happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Late summer and early fall continue to be a popular time for fishing on the Big Manistee River. With two species of Salmon and Steelhead there is always something to fish for. I have a few prime dates open.
